The Laughter of the Dark Goddess The Practice of Troma Nagmo the Queen of the Cremation Grounds

According to the traditions of pre-Christian Old Europe, the Great Goddess possessed a cauldron embodying her power over life and death. Those who were dipped into her cauldron were reborn and rejuvinated. The dark aspect of this Goddess dances between worlds and other dimensions of reality, thus she manifests in the liminal expance of the cremantion grounds, the place of death and rebirth. Although she appears in many diff erent cultures under many diff erent names, this seminar will examine her place in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition of Tibet. Known in India as Kali, in Tibet she is Krodhi Kali, the wrathful black one, or in Tibetan as Troma Nagmo. As a Wisdom Dakini, she represents the shadow side of the Queen of the Dakinis Vajravarahi, so her symbolism is rather gothic. Nevertheless, despite her wrathful aspect, she is the embodiment of the Perfection of Wisdom, or Prajnaparamita, the feminine side of Buddha enlightenment. This seminar focuses on her practices found in the Düdjom Tersar.
